What Design Can Do

Today and tomorrow, the international festival What Design Can Do comes to Amsterdam. What Design Can Do is an annual, multi-disciplinary festival that focuses on the impact design has on our daily lives; it will cover all major and minor issues that make up our lives, such as equality, freedom, commitment, eating, living and working.

Good design

Many of today’s most visionary and inspirational thinkers from the world of product design, architecture, interactive design and fashion will come to Amsterdam this May for the two-day conference What Design Can Do. For many young designers, pragmatism and idealism fit together perfectly naturally, says Richard van der Laken, a famous designer himself. ‘That a good design is also good for the world. That’s what it’s about.’

Over a thousand designers are expected to take part in the festival’s talks, break-out
sessions and workshops, which will take place at numerous locations across Amsterdam, including the Stadsschouwburg (the City Theatre), the Applestore, the Melkweg multi-media centre, De Balie cinema and the Stedelijk Museum.
